Why We Started the Furry Friend Fund

Our journey began with Penny — our loyal and loving 11-year-old pup. Like many pet parents, we never imagined facing a life-or-death decision based on finances. But when Penny was diagnosed with pancreatitis, we were suddenly staring down thousands of dollars in emergency vet bills.

Even with pet insurance, we couldn’t move forward with her treatment until we paid a large out-of-pocket portion — up front. We found ourselves at a heartbreaking crossroads: delay care and risk her health, or pay immediately and absorb the financial hit.

Thankfully, we had a savings account to fall back on. But that experience left us with one haunting question:

What happens to the people who don’t?

What happens to the pet parent who loves their animal just as fiercely, but can’t afford emergency care? No one should have to choose between their pet’s life and a medical bill.

That’s why we created The Furry Friend Fund — to be there when others have nowhere else to turn. To help families keep their pets alive and by their side. Because love, loyalty, and companionship should never be lost to financial hardship.
